In the beginning, there was Lisa Frank. Idol, muse and provider of Trapper Keepers to any girl who grew up in the 80s and 90s. Lisa Frank had an uncanny ability to use every single color of the rainbow, leopard print, gradients and sparkles all at the same time. For this reason, I worshipped her.
All illustrations started as renderings on paper by artist Rondi Kutz, then went to illustrators to redraw and add details. Initially finals were airbrushed, then by the late 80s they transitioned to computers. Lisa Frank was meticulous about detail and hundreds of hours went into each piece. Lisa Frank even developed a proprietary ink to make her colors the brightest ever, and had all licensees sign an ink confidentiality agreement - because she is that hardcore.
